Massage Therapy FAQs

Massage Therapy: Frequently Asked Questions

Massage therapy is one of those fields about which people have a few misconceptions. Some of these are based on stereotypes while others are due to simply not knowing what the therapy entails. Massage therapy is much more than just a patient lying on a table having their shoulders rubbed. Muscle tension often aggravates other health conditions making them seem worse. At Woodgrove Pines Clinic in Nanaimo, BC, our therapists can help you relax and release your muscle tension. We have gathered a few questions that are common when speaking about massage therapy.

1. Do I Have to Take My Clothes Off?

The popular image of massage is of a person with no clothes on save for a towel or sheet draped strategically across their body. However, you do not have to undress for the massage. You choose the level of dress or undress according to how comfortable you are. You should wear comfortable clothes that are not tight if you choose to remain dressed.

2. What Type of Massage Style is Right for Me?

Our massage therapist will make recommendations for which styles would most benefit your condition. We offer a variety of styles and will be happy to explain the differences and benefits before the session begins.

3. Can I Eat Before the Appointment?

You don't have to avoid food for hours beforehand, but you should eat lightly that day. It is also a good idea to not eat within an hour of the appointment so that you don't have to rush to the bathroom in the middle of the massage.

4. Is There Anything I Should do to Prepare?

Drink water throughout the day, both before and after the appointment. Staying hydrated helps your body stay relaxed, so the massage can have the intended effect.
