Supporting the Human Mind, Body and Life
by Tammy Chater R.Ac.
Oriental Medicine is a form of medical practice that dates back approximately 2,500 years. The main branches are acupuncture and herbology, which are used to evoke a self-regulating response in patients. Others include diet, lifestyle, and "tui na" (massage).
Acupuncture is based on energy or "Qi" (chee). Your vital Qi is the energy responsible for supporting the human mind, body and life, and what happens to one part of the body will influence another part since everything is interconnected.
This vital Qi flows through our bodies along pathways or meridians. These meridians correspond to different organs, their systems and functions. Acupuncture is the insertion of extremely fine needles into specific acupuncture points along these meridians to bring about positive changes in the flow of Qi to restore balance to the body.
Modern research has shown acupuncture stimulates activity in different parts of the brain and increases endorphin production, and activates both the endocrine and immune systems. When your body is in balance and your Qi is free flowing we have a general state of well-being and ease. We feel physically strong, mentally clear, have normal digestion, sleep well, and wake refreshed ready to start our day. When there is an imbalance of Qi it can lead to discomfort, illness, disorder, disease and/or pain.
Acupuncture treatments are generally very relaxing. There is minimal discomfort and most times, none at all. The disposable needles, made of fine surgical steel, are only used once and then disposed of.
After an acupuncture treatment patients have reported reduction or elimination of pain, a balancing of the body, feeling more relaxed, and a greater sense of well-being.
Common ailments that can be treated with acupuncture include:
- Digestive Complaints
- Carpal Tunnel
- Low Immune System
- Stress Management
- Back Pain
- Preventative Health (general support to the body to keep it well)
Cameron Wallace is a registered Acupuncturist with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners & Acupuncturists of British Columbia. He graduated from Reeves college in Edmonton AB, then transferred his registration back home to BC.
Cameron believes that the healing process can begin with one simple step. There are three main areas in ones life to think about when you think about health. Diet, exercise, and body work. It is good to incorporate a balance in all these aspects of life. You need to eat, you need to move, and along the way an injury or aliment can arise. Its not just about getting acupuncture when you are stricken with an ailment. Acupuncture and recommendations on diet and exercise are great ways to prevent the ailment from happening in the first place.
Cameron’s favourite condition to work on is pain! He likes leaving clients at the end of a treatment feeling relaxed, healed and ready to enjoy their day.
Cameron looks forward to meeting you! Call 250-390-2003 to book an appointment or feel free to simply drop by the clinic.
